Almost immediately the model collided with new emissions regulations in the U.S. and unsold 260Zs were retooled with new engines, camshafts, carburetors, to comply. They reentered the market alongside the more powerful 280Zs, in 1975. The 280Zs sported bigger, more powerful engines and a longer, more stable wheelbase. It was a case of “no contest,” and the 260Zs were phased out in 1978.
