In the late 1980s, the American public liked the concept of the Saturn so much that Chrysler rebranded several models left over from the American Motors buyout under the Jeep marque. These cars re-entered the marketplace newly christened as Eagles, but never proved to be any competition for the inexpensive to run, and simple-to-maintain Saturns. Unfortunately, other than giving these vehicles their own distinct eagle’s head logo, Chrysler did little to promote them. As a result, buyers seeking a new Jeep for some 4-wheelin’, instead saw a lot covered in pedestrian, rear-wheel drive sedans. Since these cars had little new to offer, buyers continued to voice their loyalty to Chrysler’s better known and longer established lines of passenger cars. Eagle sales were slow and in 1998, the last Eagle Talon rolled off the assembly line.
